Santandrea
This 30 meter-long tug, whose hull is constructed of riveted steel plates,
has a displacement of more than 300 tonnes, and she experienced and exceptional
end to her working career. Santandrea left the Solimano shipyard in 1961, the
last unit of a series begun in 1937, and was built using construction techniques
that are no longer used today. After twenty years of good and loyal service in
the Mediterranean, she became the private boat of the American actor Bud Spencer.
Her 1600 horsepower engine is just as reliable as it has always been, she carried
out a tour of the world at the end of the 1990s which took four years. She had
an extended stay in New Zealand, during which she became the official mother boat
for the Luna Rossa Challenge for the America's Cup. Back in Monaco, her career,
her adventures and her peaceful charm have gained her the admiration of boat owners
who have lived and travelled the whole world. Neither her captain, Jacques Maïder,
or even less her owner, Gildo Pallanca Pastor, will tell you anything to the contrary.
